Zero Waste Sonoma County

Zero Waste Sonoma’s mission is to empower personal action in waste reduction and materials management by implementing practical solutions to protect our natural resources.

Zero Waste Sonoma is a local government entity, specifically a joint powers authority (JPA), for the unincorporated area and nine cities and towns in Sonoma County. Zero Waste Sonoma exists to serve and help the residents and businesses of Sonoma County reduce, reuse, recycle, and discard all materials in the safest and most environmentally responsible way possible.

Staff manage programs in composting and Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), conduct solid waste planning, complete reporting, and provide education and outreach for all ten member jurisdictions. In turn, representatives from each of the ten jurisdictions make up the Agency board.

This website is meant to serve as the best go-to resource for answering any and all recycling or disposal questions. Read and download the latest free Zero Waste Guide (also available in Spanish), which is published and refreshed every year.
